I know what you mean Frodo, I feel much the same way about Gnomes - although it must be said that their rural cunning and innocuous stature would make them very creepy adversaries.

YES! I think that the same way that some people visiting other countries have a could not care less and others slightly interested or curious and others immerse themselves in it.
I think I real that immersion in the readings of the lord of The Rings.
Hell, Vampires and the whole seductive good looking vamp thing? No appeal to me. I think they are stake fodder and not worth investing time in thought or contemplation but Elves and dwarves and the like.

i like the elves in lotr because they are a reflection of what we know we could be and should be as humans, intelligent, patient, wise, effective, disciplined. they are all we have the capability to achieve but thus far have been unable to. it gives an image to what we could be.
