Have you ever won big?

For this thread, I'm interested in anyone sharing a time when they've won big-
Has anyone won the lottery, anybody you know? Ever win the Jackpot at a casino? Ever win a huge contest?

Did it change your life for the better?

I'm asking because I just won 5 grand and a trip to LA with my sister.
I mean, I feel good about it, because I've never won so much as a lollypop in my life, but I just hope this doesn't have a negative effect? I mean... I know this sounds crazy, but I hear stories about people winning and it ruining their life. I dunno, I'm sort of afraid to get on the plane!

I'm glad you won that money. And I think the stories about winning the lottery ruining peoples lives are usually when they win millions - so, lucky you didnt win 5 million instead of 5 thousand! ?

Have you been to LA before? What are you doing down there; staying in a hotel?

I won a cruise once, but they wanted me to listen to a time share meeting. So, needless to say, prize wasnt claimed.

Also, planes arent THAT scary. The worst part is the turbulence, bring some books and an ipod so you arent bored.

But, you're right Brother Karl, guess it's not all that much lol. Funny thing is, i swear to God- I was typing this thread just to ask people out of curiosity if they've ever won anything, then my mom told me that we actually won the contest as I was doing that.... so, I just included the part about me winning. Pretty weird!
& nope, I've never been on a plane before- I come from a real working class background in a smaller town so this will be my first big trip! I'm not sure what alls going to take place out there but yes they're paying for the hotel for a couple days.

Hey lem, well I'm not going to get into how I won, don't want to give out too much personal info. The reason I didn't wanna get on the plane wasnt because I'm afraid to fly, but I was being silly & was afraid the plane would crash because I won! lol

I won 50 bucks with a pack of chips when I was a child. My parents took it because they thought I were too little for this kind of money, which I was.

My mother played Bingo and the closest she got to winning is one square missing in the corner to win a million. Needless to say she had her heart racing.

my parents once won $5,000 in the florida lottery. it wasn't much, but they did manage to pay off a lot of their bills. i was kind of young at the time, so i don't remember if it changed them much.

i think only people that win REALLY big get changed. i'm talking about people that win millions of dollars, or even hundreds of thousands of dollars.

i've never won big

i won a lollipop in the second grade when i won a math contest, but that's about it.

A $5 movie ticket is all that i have ever one.

I wouldn't think that $5000 is enough to destroy your life. Most of the people that i have heard of that had problems after winning are people that one life changing amounts. Adjusting to life styles that they couldn't maintain after they ran through the money or spending like it had no limit and ending in more debt then they had before the win.

I got a fun story. My much older sister and her 5 year old son occasionaly played the lottery, twice a month or so. On one ticket, she let the little guy pick all of the numbers at random, and he did. By sheer luck 4 out of the 6 numbers were correct (if i remember right) and won a prize of a few hundred euros.
